I don’t pretend to have all the answers, I’m not a bible scholar, however- I am trying to faithfully serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through encouraging others. Pray for me as we walk through this study together and I will certainly pray for you.
Speaking of prayer is there a right way and a wrong way to pray?
No, I don’t think there is a right or wrong way, God hears and knows our heart. He does want us to talk to him. That being said, there are ways to pray more efficiently – just as there are more efficient ways to talk to our parents.
I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:10)
Are there things in your life that are just not where you’d like them to be?
Do you have problems in your family? What family doesn’t? You don’t have to list and share your dirty laundry. Maybe you walk on pins and needles with your sweetheart – you always seem to say the wrong thing and an instant explosion or maybe silent brooding thoughts. Do you have an angry kid(s) that you just get through too? How about workplace awkwardness with a co-worker- awkward tension with a church member? Frustration with a neighbor, family strife with extended relatives. Is there anything about you yourself personally- you wish was different?
We all have it- too. Dirty clothes, drama, sin, stress, etc. Did you know that we ladies can change that? – We most certainly can with a lot less energy than it takes to switch a load of laundry. We have the power through Jesus Christ to fight not with our fists or the sharp tongue in our mouths- but with our hearts and minds in PRAYER! This is where we will begin to learn to take our family back. Heal our marriages; begin relationships on the right foot. Apply and practice forgiveness for them and yourself. Have more peace in your soul, at work, church, or school.
To do this we are going to develop a strategy. What is Strategy?
A strategy is a plan of action designed to achieve a major overall aim. What are some ways we develop strategies in life? Chess, games, housework, laundry days, shopping, errands, – We want to apply this to our prayer life!
How many of you remember everything all of the time?
Right, me neither! Consider making yourself a War Binder! – It is a place for you to record prayers, joys, scripture, our lessons, Bible study, and gratitude and so on. I want this to be a place of joy for you. When you look through the pages – you relax, smile, and know that God is working- that is God is good all of the time- This is a place to help you remember, recall, and reflect.
This place will help us remember: who the real enemy is, it’s a place to remember whom our hope is in, a central place to remember real needs and dependencies, and lastly to record how God answers.
We are going to revive prayer in our lives.
Give prayer a new place in our hearts.
And rely on prayer more than anything we’ve ever done.
Be creative, pictures, letters, sticky notes, color, draw, – I like markers and stickers- they stand out and grab my attention. We are drawn to pretty colors. This doesn’t have to be boring.

Where are the praying grandmothers of old? I‘d heard a young preacher man in his sermon as that same question. Where are the true-
I‘d heard a young preacher man in his sermon ask that same question. Where are the true-battle-seasoned prayer warriors, fighting for the lives of their family and friends through prayer? Those precious ladies had super powers. They were your basic oatmeal cookie baking, cuddly soft granny by day and prayer warrior with a crocheted cape, Bible sword, knitted helmet by night- or whenever they prayed. They were Fervent, convicted, and passionate about prayer! We need to join those ranks.
— What is the definition to Fervent?
Now let’s give some examples of some things you can be fervent about? Sewing, writing, cooking, reading, school, work, sports, exercise, gardening, and carpentry and so on – What is something you feel passionate about? Being fervent is being on fire or passionate about something you love. We are going to revive our flat prayer life- prayer is so much more than blessing your food or a special time at a church.
Confess your faults (trespasses) one to another and pray for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual (effective) fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16
Avail or availeth means to profit, to be strong or able, to be of force or authority.
Confess your faults simply means to own it or acknowledge your faults to one another. I’m not advocating renting a billboard and telling the world. If you have a sister in Christ or a wise grandmother this person would be ideal for sharing with.
The effective passionate prayer of a good man is strong, forceful, has authority- we have power in prayer. We want our prayer life to be strong, forceful- not demanding of God- but strong in the fight against Satan, we want to pray with authority- that we have as children of God.
For through him we both have access by one spirit unto the father. (Ephesians 2:18)
The book of Ephesians is a letter from Paul to the church at Ephesus. For through him? Who is HIM? Jesus is him. “We both” is Paul and the reader (YOU)– have Access or (liberty to approach) — by one spirit (which is the Holy Spirit) unto the Father (who is God!) Because we have Jesus- who died in our stead, we have liberty to apprach to the Father through the Holy Spirit- that now lives in us once we have accepted the free gift of salvation. Isn’t that awesome! We have connections!
Just as the telephone book is a directory for numbers and places to be found so is our Bible. Our Bible is God’s directory given to us- to find ailments to our problems, encouraging words, and life lessons. By the grace of God, we are going to learn how to use this gift as our sword – the Bible. We’ll read this book fervent as a tool. But we will study this word of God and learn to use it specifically as a part of our armor!
If you really wanted to do something when you were a pre-teen did you ask your mother specifically in great detail! You would plead with details, reassurances, and offer bargaining methods if necessary. Anything it took to get your desired point across for the goal to be had. You were quite specific in your needs or wants.
Put on the full armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11
Wiles, Schemes: The devil has schemes- someone describe him…
Satan is a liar, trickster, Angel of Light – he’s a con, he’s good at deflecting attention.
We have to suit up with all the armor- in order to take him on – and not just the parts we want! Not just the ones we like or coordinate. ALL of the pieces! As we continue our study we will learn of these pieces. Prayer is going to activate that armor- prayer fuses the pieces together so that now you can fight!
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12)
There is an invisible battle taking place. Our earthling eyes won’t let us see it – but it’s real. Just because I say- it’s invisible that doesn’t mean that I am implying it’s fictional. Super- duper real- Open war is upon us whether we accept it or not! Satan is here to kill steal and destroy! That is his mission!
What do we ladies wrestle/struggle with? Finances, worries over school, jobs, relationships, insecurities, weight loss, health issues, our past, what we should or shouldn’t do. We wrestle all right, all of us. – –We’ve been going about this all wrong. Our fight isn’t with people/flesh and blood- it’s with the unseen forces that work to stress us.
What we need to realize is:
- Satan is not God’s counterpart or peer. They aren’t equal.
- God is Omnipresent (everywhere at once). – the enemy is not
- God is Omniscient (knows everything) – the enemy does not
- Only God can work miracles- the enemy seeks to steal kill and destroy
- Only God is eternal! – The enemy is limited and his time is running out.
What my goal is:
Praying always with prayer and supplication in the spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. And for me that utterance may be given unto me, that I may boldly open my mouth to make known the mystery of the gospel. (Ephesians 6:18-19)
Supplication is to be humble, to entreat. To entreat is earnest petition or request.
There it is, the fuel that’s gonna drive this train. This won’t be a quick fix or just a seasonal prayer session. We are changing our way of life. We are gonna pray till we have granddaughters – and then keep praying some more. We are gonna pray cause we can’t fix this mess on our own. We are gonna pray cause we are serious about change. We are gonna pray because it’s our duty, responsibility, and it’s needed.
Revelation in Prayer to Bear All:
This is your chance, where the rubber meets the road, and the pencil to the paper. Write your first prayer- your inadequacies, desires, and hope… This is just the beginning. It doesn’t have to be perfect- just honest, humble, and earnest. What do you hope to accomplish with this study? What do you want to make right? Bear your heart to God-
This study will take you out of our comfort zone.
Satan will hurl excuses like -I just don’t have time to pray or write.
He’ll make you feel guilty for not praying enough- so you quit.
He will try to dissuade you.
My hand hurts.
Uhg. The scriptures aren’t even in order.
God isn’t even listening.
I give you these warnings not to scare you- but that your eyes will be open- and you will see it for what it is so that when it comes– distraction, discontent, bickering kids, fussy Hunny, snakes, broke car, short on $, or anything else- he throws your way. Know that he’s trying to get your goat. Don’t let him have it. No matter what Satan throws at you- Push on, God’s blessings will be far greater! Here are some additional scriptures to lean on if you feel attacked.
For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
Matthew 4:10 – in the name of Jesus- get the hence

If you are thinking, I don’t know how to pray? I don’t know what to say, use the guide on page 21-22 in the book Fervent. Its very basic and simple- as I said before there is no wrong way. Just talk to God.
So, roll up your sleeves. Get your game face on –GRrrr….It’s time to get serious.
Homework: Read Stategy 1 on page 25. Put up prayer cards around your house, car, work, war binder, or in your prayer closet. Set aside a time each day to talk with the Lord. – It doesn’t have to be in a closet- anytime – anywhere you get alone with God- even if it’s driving down the interstate or sitting alone quiet in your own thoughts. Record your prayer requests and his blessings. Write each of the scriptures mentioned in the chapter. Look them up for yourself, don’t take my word or Priscilla’s word for it—find the truth!
Until we meet again,
